i've been blindly purchasing CDs at random book-off locations. specifically compilation albums, some dated or kitschy as a personal little project for me. i'm interested in uncovering something special--or not. but i miss the thrill of just seeking out and taking a gamble on random records or CDs & discovering what i'll find. for my first proper music post, i'd like to share this trance compilation album from the iconic japanese label, avex trax group (notably populatizing dance music across japan for decades now & having the longest comp series in history for their super eurobeat series), under the sublabel of "avex trance." originally released in 2002, this comp album is part 2 of their short lived series, velfarre cyber trance best hit trance (last release was in 2004). according to wikipedia, velfarre (ヴェルファーレ) was the largest disco club in japan, self-proclaimed as the largest in asia. one of the most popular parties they'd host would be these "cyber trance" parties that would take place every weekend. these parties would feature DJs that were popular within japan and across europe. important to note that velfarre was located in the roppongi district of tokyo, in a venue that includes three floors below ground & three floors above, with a capacity to hold 1,500 people! along with hosting exhilarating dance parties, velfarre also helped popularize the "para para" scene of the late 1990s and early 2000s. unfortunately, the club closed down after 12 years back in 2007 (there was an attempt to start it back up in 2011, but it didn't take).

i really enjoyed this compilation, nothing but pure energy and fun. i highly recommend to listen to it while driving or simply wanting to get some housework done. my favorites have to be barthezz's "infected." many of you guys will recognize darude (lol), flutlicht & ayumi hamasaki (fun fact: she was discovered & signed after attending velfarre parties).
