i recently went to a vintage / antique market & purchased some cute finds that i want to share. i plan to make a "collections" tab someday, but it's currently under construction! in the meantime, i may just add my collections to my diary posts.
first item: i'm actually not entirely sure what this is, i figured it's a child's room mini shelf or a bookend of some sort. it's super cute & hand painted, circa 1970s / 1980s. definitely from the showa period. i plan to use it as a decorative element for my antique dresser.
i'm a sucker for keychains & have many dangling from my phone & purse right now as i type. so of course i had to satisfy my insatiable addiction for all things small & cute. i found this amazing 1990s hamtaro plastic keychain & even more impressive than that--a moogle keychain! i hardly see any official moogle merchandise ever, even here in japan, it seems pretty rare. i sometimes see more modern final fantasy merchandise at mandarake, but never moogle related & definitely not a vintage moogle item.
this one seems pretty rare, for i have never seen or even heard of sanrio releasing a candle pricket. you can see the sanrio trademark at the bottom dated 1983. as a candle obsessed girlie, i had to get it. it's even cuter that there is a little bell dangling on its handle!

this has to be my favorite find ever here in japan! i have been a lover of junichi nakahara's work for as long as i can remember. his influence is seen in every single girl manga series ever made, marking him as one of godfathers of shaping the idea of what shojo manga should look like. i've never seen anything quite like this. of course, i've come across vintage prints & books, but i've never seen an illustration like this that seems to be hand painted (you can see the strokes of the paint from under the glass against a metallic sheet). is it an original? i'm not too sure & i'm not too familiar with his signature. unfortunately, there is no date on the back, but it looks to me to be more of his 1950s work.
as a stationery addict, i had to get this strawberry notepad. anything with a cute character & some fruit always gets me. this one is from the 1980s, completely unused.

below are some beautiful vintage gifts from my friend ayumi, who always knows me so well (& who always goes above & beyond in her letters & packaging). i've been very blessed to have a friend like her. i thought i would have such a hard time making friends in japan, even having low expectations to not making any friends at all, but she really was a bit of a miracle for me.
actually, all the friendships i've made here have been small miracles--due to happenstance.
she knows my obsession with bunka dolls...
