a few weeks ago, i had the lovely opportunity to go to a taisho era art exhibition, which is the time period from 1912 to 1926 (simultaneously art nouveau to art deco in the west). the exhibition showcased many popular influences from europe, specifically my personal favorite--renΓ© lalique! which i've never had the chance to see any of his work in person. i've always been fascinated how the japanese interpret western influences in their design, yet still maintain traditional japanese sensibilities. i'm especially interested in their beauty advertising from this period (forever inspiring). below, i'll show some of my favorite pieces shown, that spans all the way to the 1950s, to illustrate how the taisho period also has influenced the showa period as well. all these were scanned from the exhibition catalog book, which was presented so beautifully (shown below: left).
